#9 Broncos Blow Out Firebirds To Open 2018-19

POMONA — Four players scored in double figures and all 12 in uniform scored at least two points as the No. 9 Cal Poly Pomona men’s basketball team crushed Saint Katherine, 91-61, in the 2018-19 season opener Wednesday night at Kellogg Arena in Pomona.The Broncos (1-0) led from start to finish in the contest, taking a 44-point lead midway through the second half before settling for the 30-point victory.  William Christmas led all players with 17 points and 10 rebounds while Jordan Ogundiran and Dwight Ramos finished with 14 points and five rebounds apiece.  Ogundiran also had seven steals and handed out five assists.  Phoenix Shackelford was the other CPP player in double-figures, chipping in with 12 points off the bench.CPP shot lights out on Wednesday, pouring in 52.1 percent of its shots on 38 of 73 from the floor.  The Broncos also held a hefty advantage on the glass, outrebounding the Firebirds 60-27.  The hosts also outscored USK 48-12 in the paint.The Firebirds were led by Austin Armstread who finished with 15 points.Cal Poly Pomona will hit the road for the next month, a five-game road swing that begins in St. George, Utah on Saturday, taking on Dixie State at 6:30 pm Pacific Time.  The Broncos won’t return home to play a game in Kellogg Arena until after Christmas on December 29th when Chico State comes to town.Print Friendly Version
