WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men’s soccer junior Antonio Bustamante was named a Preseason All-American by College Soccer News. The Tribe midfielder was among 33 players honored and was selected to the second team. The honor adds to a growing list of preseason accolades for Bustamante. He was one of 31 players nationally to be named to the Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy Watch List, college soccer’s version of the Heisman Trophy, by the United Soccer Coaches (USC). Bustamante was also named the CAA Preseason Player of the Year by vote of the league’s coaches.
A two-time All-CAA pick, Bustamante led the Tribe last season with 10 goals and 24 points. He was one of only three double-digit goal scorers in the CAA and earned All-Midwest Region First Team honors as well. The Springfield, Va., native started all 33 games in his first two seasons and totaled 15 goals, five assists and 35 points. In the Tribe’s exhibition win over Navy on Saturday, Bustamante factored in all three Tribe goals, tallying a score and two assists.
W&M, which is the preseason favorite to win the CAA, begins the regular season on the road at Big Ten foe Michigan on Friday, Aug. 25. The match carries a 7 p.m. start time from U-M Soccer Stadium. The Tribe opens its home regular-season slate against N.C. State on Monday, Aug. 28, at 7 p.m.
