After the disappointing cancellation of the Miami game due to Hurricane Irma, Arkansas State looks forward to playing in an in-state matchup against the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff (UAPB) Golden Lions next Saturday.
Last weekend the Red Wolves traveled to Lincoln to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers and fell short 43-36; this was a good showing against the Red Wolves’ BIG 10 opponent. In Pine Bluff, the Golden lions defeated Morehouse college 23-10 after falling behind 10-0. Since UAPB is not scheduled to play anyone that will be affected by Hurricane Irma, the Golden Lions will play the Akron Zips tomorrow in their second game of the season. Over the last three years UAPB has had a few rough seasons: their overall record in 2016 was 1-10, in 2015 2-9 and in 2014 4-7.
This year, according to hbcugameday.com, the Golden Lions are predicted to finish last in the SWAC Western conference. The Red Wolves, ending the 2016 a joint Sun Belt conference champion with Appalachian State, are predicted to finish third in their conference. Appalachian State has been predicted to win the Sun Belt once again with Troy coming in second.
The Miami game was supposed to be the first game of the season in Jonesboro. Now A-State fans will have to wait an extra week. ESPN’s power index favors A-State by 99.8% over the Golden Lions.
