Broncos Shut Out By Coyotes In CCAA Opener

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — The Cal Poly Pomona women’s soccer team held a 19-7 shot advantage in the contest, but lost 2-0 to host Cal State San Bernardino Wednesday in the CCAA opener for both teams on Wednesday at Premier Field in San Bernardino.  The Broncos (4-3, 0-1 CCAA) have their three-match win streak snapped while the Coyotes improved to 2-4 (1-0 CCAA).It was Cal State San Bernardino’s Kelly Kevershan to strike twice against CPP, the first goal came just 7:09 into the first half when she took advantage of a failed clear attempt by the Broncos defense.  Kevershan took possession of the ball with no one but Cal Poly Pomona goalkeeper Sydney Williams behind her, and Kevershan juked past Williams and dribbled the ball easily into the net for the early 1-0 lead.The Broncos outshot the Coyotes by six shots in both halves (9-3 in the first half, 10-4 in the second), but CSUSB netminder Carly Luna made nine saves to keep CPP off the scoreboard.  Meanwhile, Kevershan buried her second goal of the day in the 57th minute when she took a pass from teammate Brielle Jones and went one-on-one with the Broncos’ Clarissa Sanchez before firing it past Sanchez and into the upper left corner of the frame for the 2-0 lead.  Sanchez entered the game for Williams at the start of the second half; both Williams and Sanchez made one save in their time between the posts.Ally LaCarra-Platt came off the bench to lead CPP in shots with four, three of which came on goal.Cal Poly Pomona returns home Sunday to host San Francisco State at Kellogg Stadium.  First kick is set for 11:30 am.Print Friendly Version
