COD to Host Sustainability Film and Discussion Series This Spring

By Mike McKissackCollege of DuPage will host a series of four free film screenings focused on sustainable
energy this spring beginning on Tuesday, March 7.All screenings will be shown at 7 p.m. in the Health and Science Center, Room 1234,
on the College’s Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd. These screenings are free and open to the public.Shown in conjunction with the College’s free Natural Resources Symposium Series, the series will feature award-winning films covering a variety of issues related
to contemporary energy use and sustainable practices. A Q&A discussion will take place
after each screening.Crying Earth, Rise Up!: Tuesday, March 7. This film documents the human cost of uranium mining and its impact
on sacred water. This screening is sponsored by the COD Liberal Arts Division and
is part of the One Earth Film Festival.Death by Design: Thursday, March 9. In an investigation that spans the globe, filmmaker Sue Williams
examines the underbelly of the electronics industry and reveals how even the smallest
devices have deadly environmental and health costs. This screening is sponsored by
the Glen Ellyn Environmental Commission and is part of the One Earth Film Festival.Living Downstream: Wednesday, April 19. Based on the acclaimed book by ecologist and cancer survivor
Sandra Steingraber, this film follows Steingraber during one pivotal year as she travels
across North America, working to break the silence about cancer and its environmental
links. This screening is sponsored by the COD Foundation.Erin Brockovich: Wednesday, April 26. Based on a true story, this feature film stars Julia Roberts
as the title character, a young mother who convinces attorney Ed Masry to hire her
and promptly stumbles upon a monumental law case against a giant corporation. This
