The Case Western Reserve University men’s basketball team suffered a 100-64 loss to third-ranked Washington University (Mo.) on Friday evening at Horsburgh Gymnasium.The loss dropped the Spartans to 7-8 on the year, including a 1-3 University Athletic Association record, while Washington improved to 13-2 overall and remained tied for the lead in the conference with a 4-0 league mark.Senior forward T.J. Duckett led the Spartans with 15 points on a seven-for-11 shooting performance, and added seven rebounds. Freshman guard Ignas Masiulionis finished the game with 10 points, and freshman guard Michael Volkening scored nine. Sophomore Michael Hollis had a career-high 12 rebounds and led all Spartans with three assists.Five Washington player scored in double-figures on Friday, including a team-leading 15 apiece for guards Jake Knupp and Jack Nolan.Washington jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead and never looked back. A layup from freshman forward Brian Dompke cut the lead down to seven, 14-7, with 15:21 to play in the first half, but the Bears would go on to lead by as many as 27 points, and close out the first stanza with a 53-29 advantage. Freshman guard Antonio Ionadi made a layup with 15:16 to go in the second half that trimmed the Bears’ lead to 19, 59-40, but that would be as close as the Spartans would get the rest of the way.Case Western Reserve will look to bounce back against the University of Chicago at Horsburgh Gymnasium on Sunday, January 21st at 12:00 p.m.
