Dominguez Hills Steals Game One vs the Broncos, 3-2

POMONA – Mistakes in the end cost the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team as Cal State Dominguez Hills came back to defeat the Broncos 3-2 in game one of the series at Scolinos Field.  THE BASICS:Final: Cal State Domingeuz Hills 3, Cal Poly Pomona 2Records: CSUDH (18-29, 15-26 CCAA), CPP (25-22, 22-19 CCAA)Location: Scolinos Field I Pomona, CA  GAME SUMMARY:

Dominguez Hills struck first in the third inning, scoring one run off a single to right field. CPP’s Nick Peifer stop a second run from crossing home, tossing a strike to home plate as Alex Kline tagged out the runner.
In the bottom of the inning, Drew Cowley tripled down the left field line before Nic Hernandez hit his eighth home run of the season, this time over the right field fence to give the Broncos a 2-1 advantage.
In the top of the ninth inning, an errant pickoff attempt by CPP allowed the Toros’ runner to advance to third, eventually scoring on a sacrifice fly to tie the game 2-2.
With the Broncos unable to score in the ninth, the game headed to extra winnings were the Toros led off with a single before advancing the runner to second on a groundout.
The runner reached third after a strikeout was overturned to a balk, eventually scoring on a single up the middle of the field to win 3-2.

 KEY PERFORMERS:

Ryan Alsworth started on the mound for CPP, tossing seven innings while allowing only one earned run off of four hits with six strikeouts.
Darin May pitched one inning of relief with no hits while Brian Conley takes the loss with three hits and two runs in two innings of work.
Hernandez collected both RBIs for the Broncos while him and Cowley each recorded two hits to lead CPP.
