Case Western Reserve University junior shortstop Nicole Doyle was named the University Athletic Association Hitter of the Week for Softball, while sophomore pitcher Ilissa Hamilton was named the UAA Pitcher of the Week, after helping the Spartans win the NCAA Division III Softball Notre Dame Regionals this past weekend.
Doyle batted .412 (7-for-17) and hit two doubles and two triples, while scoring four runs and driving in four RBI’s. During the Spartans’ 5-1 win over Ohio Northern on Sunday, Doyle went two-for-three at the plate with a double, triple, one run scored and two runs batted in. She was named to the All-Notre Dame Regional team for her efforts.
For the season, Doyle ranks third on the team with a .363 batting average (57-for-157) with three triples, five home runs, 16 doubles, 30 RBI’s and 36 runs scored. This was Waldner’s second career UAA Hitter of the Week honor.
Hamilton went 4-1 on the mound, allowing only three earned runs in 29.0 innings pitched, while striking out 23 batters. At the plate, she went four-for-14 with one double and two runs batted in. During the Spartans’ 5-0 win over Ohio Northern on Sunday, Hamilton pitched six shutout innings and only four hits and a walk while striking out five batters. She was named the Most Valuable Player of the Notre Dame Regional for her performance.
For the season, Hamilton has an 18-5 overall record, including 16 complete games. She has totaled 153.0 innings pitched, allowing 54 earned runs on 120 hits. She currently leads the team and University Athletic Association with 169 strikeouts. This was Hamilton’s fourth career UAA Pitcher of the Week honor.
Case Western Reserve will now await the winner of the Hope College vs. Calvin College Regional Championship game that is being held today in Holland, Michigan. The winner of that regional will play the Spartans in the NCAA Division III Super Regional at a site to be …
