Eagles Clip Cardinals in First MAC Dual Win this Season

MUNCIE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men’s swimming and diving team returned to the pool after a six-week hiatus with a dominating 149-121 win over Mid-American Conference foe, Ball State University Saturday, Jan. 13. Winning almost every event of the meet, the Eagles secured its 24th consecutive dual win over the Cardinals, while moving to 4-1 on the season in duals. The Eagles started the meet off with a sweep of the top three spots in the 200 Medley Relay. The cohort consisting of junior Ricky Perez (Greenfield, Wisc.-Greenfield), sophomores Matthew Tsenkov (Sofia, Bulgaria-General Vladimir Stoychev) and Matthew Martin (Brecksville, Ohio-Brecksville Broadview Heights), and freshman Alec Hoch (Orchard Park, N.Y.-Orchard Park) bested the pool with a time of 1:34.79. Transitioning to the individual portion of the meet, senior Logan Burton (Chesapeake, Va.-Hickory) nabbed first place in the 1000 Freestyle with a time of 9:46.38. Racing in the event for the first time since last year against Ball State, Jan. 16, Burton now owns the eighth fastest 1000 free time in the conference and second fastest for EMU this season.In the 200 free, Eastern took the top two spots thanks to juniors Jake Tyson (Ipswich, England-Northgate) and JF Murphy (Montreal, Quebec-Sainte-Anne). Tyson took first with a time of 1:44.14 while Murphy finished right on his heals at 1:45.69.The Green and White kept the winning streak alive in the 100 backstroke as Eastern saw its second sweep of the day. Sophomore Matan Segal (Lehavim, Israel-Hof HaSharon) headed the sweep, clocking in at  50.86. Perez and freshman Chris O’Shea (Miller Place, N.Y.-Rocky Points) took second and third, respectively.Well ahead in the team standings, Eastern deferred points from this point with the exception of first-place finishes. Tsenkov returned to the pool for the 100 breaststroke to claim first at 58.50 before sophomore Parker Saladin (Buchanan, Mich.-Buchanan) took the top spot in the 200 butterfly …
