Event to Focus on Medications for Treatment of Substance Use Disorders

The College of Nursing and the Center for Health Promotion (CHP) are sponsoring a community educational event about medications for the treatment of substance use disorders on Thursday, April 26 from 3-5 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom.Everyone­–medical professional, first responder, family member of individuals suffering from addiction, concerned citizen–is invited to this community training event.
The program will be presented by Robert Roose, M.D., vice president of behavioral health for Mercy Medical Center and an addiction medicine specialist.
There will also be a panel discussion.
Substance use disorders are the most common cause of preventable disability in the U.S., and accidental overdose (often involving opioids) is the leading cause of injury-related death in our country.
Addiction is recognized as a brain disease and there is a wealth of evidence for the use of medications in the treatment of substance use disorders, but they remain underutilized and often misunderstood.
