2018 All-GNAC Teams (PDF)PORTLAND, Ore. – The Great Northwest Athletic Conference released its 2018 Football All-Conference Teams and Honorable Mention selections Wednesday. Humboldt State has a number of representatives including First Team kick returner Adam Herrera and Freshman of the Year linebacker Moses Finau along with nine others.Running back Tyree Marzetta, and offensive linemen Clint Schallberger and Nathan Trent were named to the Second Team Offense, while defensive lineman Tariq Wright, linebacker Demetrick Watts, safety Evan Camarena and Finau joined them on the Second Team Defense. Honorable Mentions selections for the Jacks included linebacker Connor Cox, receiver Kaleo Garrigan and kicker Jose Morales.”It was good to see our guys get rewarded for all of their efforts they put in, not just in the season, but also in the offseason,” said HSU Head Coach Damaro Wheeler. “I am glad to see some of these guys get what they were due. I am just happy to say I coached these young men.”Finau claimed the coveted Freshman of the Year award after a spectacular first season in the Green and Gold. He led the Jacks with 82 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. The Sacramento, Calif., native was GNAC Defensive Player of the Week following Saturday’s win over Simon Fraser.”I am definitely not surprised, I felt like he was a no-brainer for the award,” said Wheeler. “He was one of the guys that popped on film every week. He’s been a pleasure to coach; an energetic kid that became a leader at the end of the season.”The lone First Team selection was Herrera at kick returner. The sophomore from Los Banos, Calif., returned 24 kicks for 562 yards with an average of 23.42 yards per return.
