FIU BVB Adds Transfer Ali Denney

MIAMI – FIU beach volleyball Head Coach Rita Buck-Crockett announced on Wednesday the addition of junior transfer Ali Denney (Jupiter, Fla./South Carolina/The Pine School) from the University of South Carolina.”Ali is a great addition to our already strong group of returners and newcomers,” said Buck-Crockett. “I am looking forward to coaching her as she is a great player and will definitely help us get where we want to go.”Denney, who returns to the Sunshine State, played two seasons of beach volleyball for the Gamecocks and helped guide South Carolina to its first two NCAA Championship appearances. She posted a 20-12 record during the 2018 campaign (14-12 at No. 1, 6-0 at No. 2). The 14 wins at No. 1 are tied for the most by any South Carolina pair in the top position, while 11 of her 20 wins, on the year, came against American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-20 opponents.  Denney was named to the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) All-Tournament team after going 5-0 at the No. 2 position during the CCSA Tournament.As a freshman, Denney went 22-11, tying the record for wins by a freshman, and was named to the CCSA All-Freshman Team after racking up 20 wins between the top two positions of the lineup. Denney led the team in service aces and posted a 7-7 record against teams ranked in the AVCA Top-15. Denney played scholastically at The Pines School (TPS), in Hobe Sound, Florida, and her club volleyball with Treasure Coast Volleyball, where her 16 and 17-year-old club teams qualified for the Junior Olympics. During her time at TPS, Denney was an All-Area Team performer and was a two-time MaxPrep Player of the Week.This season, the Panthers posted a 23-12 record, and a 7-3 mark in Coastal Collegiate Sports Association play, advancing to their first-ever NCAA Championships in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
