MIAMI (May 10, 2018) – The FIU women’s tennis team, will begin postseason play as it faces UCF (19-4) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, May 11. The Panthers (17-2) ranked No. 39 in the Oracle/ITA women’s rankings will take on the Knights at 11 a.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. Senior Andrea Lazaro, currently ranked No. 10 in the Oracle/ITA national singles rankings, leads the team with 26 overall victories and 14 in dual matches at No. 1. Lazaro also earned First-Team All- Conference USA honors in both singles and doubles, along with sophomore teammate Ulyana Grib. Grib has 18 wins overall, including 12 in dual matches. Junior Maryna Veksler posted 16 overall wins and nine in dual matches. Veksler, clinched the championship point for the Panthers in the Conference USA finals against Rice. The tandem is ranked No. 24 in in the Oracle/ITA national doubles rankings and have an overall record of 18-5. Following the tandem of Grib and Veksler, Lazaro and Nerma Caluk have a 17-1 mark in overall doubles matches. Both doubles teams earned First-Team All-C-USA honors. The Panthers and the Knights (19-4) will face each other for the second time this season. FIU dropped the previous match, 4-1, back in March.
