Glennon Named Interim Head of Marketing, New Business Development

Sean Glennon, senior director of marketing strategy and creative development, has been named interim executive director of marketing and new business development in University Relations.He succeeds John Bidwell, who has left the university. A national search for a permanent executive director will be conducted.
Glennon joined the marketing team in University Relations in 2011 as associate director and has also held the position of director of major program marketing. He has led the modernization of marketing practices for online degree programs and classes offered through Continuing and Professional Education; managed professional staff engaged in research and sustainability communications; and collaborated with senior leadership on priority projects for such areas as admissions, athletics and diversity and inclusive excellence.
Prior to joining UMass Amherst, Glennon spent more than a decade as an advertising agency copywriter, brand strategist and creative director. He formerly directed advertising, promotion and public relations for Northampton’s Iron Horse Entertainment Group.
As a music, arts and culture journalist, he was a frequent contributor to The Boston Globe, the Boston Phoenix, Salon.com and other outlets and was arts editor for the Springfield and Valley Advocate newspapers. He also was a longtime member of the on-air staff at WRSI, 93.9 FM, in Northampton. He can still be heard on the radio and occasionally seen on TV as a result of his avocation, writing about professional football and its history.
Glennon is author of five New England Patriots-themed books, including “Tom Brady vs. the NFL: The Case for Football’s Greatest Quarterback” (Triumph Books), the theme of which was not a settled question on the book’s initial publication in 2012, though it arguably was by the time a second edition was released in 2016.
