Those seeking a wide array of globally-diverse activities need look no further than Lone Star College-Montgomery during the week of April 9-13. Organizers of the weeklong event (the LSC-Montgomery Office of Student Life and the college’s International Student Organization) have brought together some intriguing programs, including the World Bazaar, which headlines Global Awareness Day on Wednesday, April 11, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., and a fascinating international space presentation. There is no cost and the community is encouraged to attend.The schedule for Wednesday’s Global Awareness Day includes:
World Bazaar Dozens of tables will display different countries, food and interactivity around the fountain courtyard in front of Buildings C, D and E. Student organizations, individual students, and college departments will participate with booths. Entertainment will be provided by a country-western dance quartet (11:30 a.m.), the Chicawa-Aztec Dancers (12 p.m.), flamenco dancers (12:30 p.m.), Alpenfest (1 p.m.), Islanders (1:45 p.m.) and an international fashion show (2 p.m.).
International Art & Design Learn how art transcends international boundaries while, at the same time, helps to define our cultural differences. Jerry’s Art-o-Rama will be on hand for interactive art projects, and the LSC-Montgomery art department will also participate. Students from Houston ISD’s Roosevelt Elementary School will have a display of “trash art,” blending ecology with artistic endeavors. This will take place in and between the Performing Arts Center (Bldg. D) and the Music Hall (Bldg. H).
Sports Area/Houston Dynamo Cultural sporting traditions will be featured, centering on soccer. The Houston Dynamo and General Mills bring interactive games, inflatables, give-aways, displays and more.
