FULLERTON, Calif. – Despite a fast start on the offensive end, UC Riverside was unable to match a seven-run first inning at Cal State Fullerton, taking a 10-6 defeat Saturday night.The Highlanders finished with the most hits in their last seven games, matching the Titans 13-13. Connor Cannon and Dylan Orick led the way with three hits each.Cannon now has a hit in each of his last six conference outings, totaling 13 hits over that span. Orick has been on fire of late as well, with seven hits over his last three appearances.Tony Gudino and Matt Hardy also finished with two hits apiece, while Colby Schultz notched his fourth home run of the season late in the game.UCR’s promising start saw them jump out to a 3-0 lead in the top half of the first inning. Nathan Webb scored first on an RBI single to right by Cannon, making it 1-0. Soon after, a Hardy double to left center brought home both Orick and Cannon.The Titans would take little time to retaliate, going for seven runs on seven hits in the bottom of the first to take a 7-3 advantage. The home side would add another three runs before the Highlanders were able to put another run.Schultz ended his team’s dry spell as the leadoff batter in the top of the ninth, sending a homer over right field to make it 10-4. Following two ground outs, the Highlanders would add two more runs. Cannon went first, reaching on a single and then scoring on an Orick double. Orick would then cap the scoring for the night on a Matt Hardy triple.UC Riverside will take on Cal State Fullerton on Sunday in the final game of the weekend starting at 1:00 p.m.
