ARCATA, Calif. – Nearly 80 Humboldt State football players reported to the Redwood Bowl Tuesday afternoon for the first practice of the 2018 season.”Camp is a time for us to learn and understand the demands of what it’s going to take to be a part of this team,” said Head Coach Damaro Wheeler. “I told them last night it’s not about the most talented team it’s about the team that gels the best. I want us to be the most close-knit team and have the best chemistry out of anyone that we face and that right there is going to lead to wins and our success on the field.”The Jacks have experienced players returning in all three phases of the game. Senior kicker Jose Morales was a First Team All-GNAC selection in 2017 after making five of eight field goals attempted and converting 58 PATs. Senior linebacker Curtis Williams received Honorable Mention All-GNAC honors finishing the season with 43 tackles, six for loss, and three sacks. Junior running back Isaiah Hall headlines the offensive returners after running for 245 yards and three touchdowns on 48 carries last season. “We are always going to have expectations and goals to be a champion,” said Wheeler. “We don’t step on the field with anything less mentally. People don’t come to Humboldt to lose, nobody on this team has experienced a losing season at Humboldt State. The team may change but the standard doesn’t.”The Green and Gold kick off their season Saturday, Sept. 1 at 5 p.m. PT in Wichita Falls, Texas, against MSU Texas.
