HSU Track & Field to Kick Off Season February 17

ARCATA, Calif. – The Humboldt State track and field program’s 2018 schedule is now live. The Lumberjack squads host two meets and compete largely between March and May. The season leads up to the CCAA Championships May 3-5 and the NCAA Division II National Championships May 24-26.  The squad will begin its 2018 campaign on Saturday, Feb. 17 in Redwood Bowl with the Green and Gold Open, an intrasquad scrimmage intended to prepare its athletes for the long season ahead. This year, there will be a special effort to make it a big alumni event, welcoming back past runners and honoring HSU’s five All-Americans that graduated last year along with the rest of the alumni with a recognition ceremony to take place just after noon on the day of the meet. That All-American list includes Alyssabeth DeJerez, Kori Gilley, Teigan Eilers, Marissa McCay, and Ariel Oliver.There will also be off-the-track festivities on what is the official 2018 Alumni Weekend, with a mixer Friday night, an alumni-only bonfire Saturday night, and a Sunday morning breakfast at the Samoa Cookhouse. The week after Green & Gold, the Multi-event athletes will travel to compete in Chico February 22-23 to start their season and the full squad will begin action March 3 at the Kim Duyst Invite in Turlock, hosted by Stanislaus State.The Jacks will return home to host the Humboldt Invite on March 24, which will showcase HSU’s brand-new track facility. Lumberjack Head Coach Sarah Ingram is particularly excited to welcome at least eight teams to the North Coast, with Chico State, Southern Oregon University, Oregon Institute of Technology, Shasta College, College of the Redwoods, Merritt College, and Sonoma State all participating.
