WORCESTER – WPI Men’s Basketball coach Chris Bartley recently announced Jeff Robinson ’11 will be returning to Boynton Hill as the program’s full-time assistant coach. He replaces Ryan Sheehan who stepped aside to pursue a professional opportunity.
“I am pumped up about Jeff coming back to WPI and becoming our full-time assistant coach,” exclaimed Bartley. “Jeff was one of the most dedicated and successful players we have coached at WPI, and he possesses the same commitment level and drive for excellence as a coach.”
Robinson began his coaching career at Widener, where he served as the recruiting coordinator and assisted with all aspects of the program from 2015 to 2017. During his time in Chester, PA, the team was seven games over .500 and, in 2016-17, the runner up in the MAC Commonwealth Conference. He then came back to Worcester and served as an assistant at Assumption in 2017-18.
Bartley added, “Jeff relates to players exceptionally well and has a terrific instinct in helping them develop. He is a trustworthy person with impeccable character who will relate with prospective students and their families because he is genuine and has gone through the WPI experience as a student-athlete himself.”
No stranger to postseason accolades, Robinson helped cultivate a pair of All-MAC selections before helping guide Matthew Kelly to Northeast-10 and Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) recognition. As a student-athlete, Robinson was the 2010-11 NEWMAC Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Year, as well as a repeat All-NEWMAC selection, and back-to-back All-Region honoree. He also garnered CoSIDA Academic All-District honors and a pair of department awards.
“I am extremely excited about the opportunity to return to my alma mater and join the men’s basketball staff at WPI,” said Robinson. “I would like to thank Dana Harmon, the athletic department and the entire WPI community for welcoming me back.”
