Kulpins Qualifies for 3K Steeplechase Finals at NCAAs

Case Western Reserve University senior Danielle Kulpins qualified for the finals of the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in La Crosse, Wisconsin on Thursday afternoon.Kulpins recorded the 12th-fastest time in the preliminaries of the event, finishing seventh in her heat with a mark of 10:55.08.  The top-five finishers in each heat, along with the next four fastest times, qualified for the finals of the event.Kulpins will now compete in the final of the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Saturday, May 26th at 11:45 a.m. CT, as she will try to become the first woman in program history to earn an All-America honor in the steeplechase.  The top-eight finishers on Saturday will claim All-America status.Kulpins’ season-best time of 10:40.17, recorded in April, would have been good for the top-mark in the preliminaries and ranks as the fourth-best time among Division III runners this season.Fans can follow Kulpins on Saturday with live video at https://www.ncaa.com/liveschedule and live results at http://results.deltatiming.com/ncaa/tf/2018-ncaa-d3-outdoor-championships#/2018-05-24.  Results and a full recap of the race will be posted to athletics.case.edu following the completion of competition on Saturday.
