Lone Star College-North Harris was recently awarded a $120,000 grant by the Texas Workforce Commission for the Career Pathways Project. With this project, Lone Star College (LSC), through the Lone Star College-North Harris campus, will provide free workforce, dual credit courses in Welding and Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC-R) from now until the end of the year to students in Aldine ISD.
LSC-North Harris is considered a leader in manufacturing education, offering numerous opportunities to earn first or second-level certificates or an Associate of Applied Science degree. According to Anne Albarelli, dean of academic affairs for LSC-North Harris, This program provides access to post-secondary education and training to students who would not otherwise be able to afford the tuition, fees, books and other associated costs for dual credit welding or HVAC-R classes. Additionally, students who complete the program with a grade of a C or better will receive a tool kit, valued at several hundred dollars.
Aldine ISD students who participate in the Career Pathways Project can earn four college credits. If the students continue on the pathway, they can earn a Level I Welding or HVAC-R certificate which prepares them to enter high-demand fields. The program is limited to first 120 Aldine ISD students who sign up.
