(April 11, 2011) Lone Star College System recognized work of excellence and long-time employees as part of its 2011 Employee Awards Luncheon held April 1 at The Woodlands Marriott.
Employees with five to 35 years of service to the college were recognized along with winners of the Faculty Excellence, Adjunct Faculty Excellence and Staff Excellence awards. LSCS also saluted a number of staff and faculty for their published writing through the annual Writing Awards.
Chancellor Dr. Richard Carpenter welcomed the employees to kick off the luncheon and acknowledged the executive staff in attendance including college presidents and vice chancellors, as well as members of the LSCS Board of Trustees.
Trustee and Board Secretary Priscilla Kelly also addressed the employees at the lunch gathering. The theme for the 2011 luncheon was Hit the High Note of Success.
Ive seen a lot of changes and weve experienced a lot of growth, Kelly said. Weve grown from 20,000 to 70,000 students. One thing that has remained the same during all this change is the quality of our faculty and staff.
Dr. Carpenter told attendees that they are known as one of the most dedicated teams of staff and faculty in all of higher education and their work has elevated Lone Star College to become well-known throughout the country.
This is your day. We celebrate all that you do to make Lone Star College the success it is, Carpenter said.
Nearly 80 staff and faculty members were recognized for their efforts through the excellence and writing categories. In addition, seven employees were recognized for serving at LSCS for 35 years; nine were recognized for 30 years of service; and five were honored for 25 years of employment. Also, another 12 LSCS workers were honored for 20 years of service; 29 employees were recognized for 15 years; and 92 employees hit the 10-year mark. Finally there were 119 staff and faculty recognized for five years of service.
