BATON ROUGE – With thunderstorms expected in the Baton Rouge area this weekend, the schedule of events for the ninth-annual David Toms Intercollegiate has moved up one day with the LSU Men’s Golf team playing host to its annual fall tournament beginning Friday at 1 p.m. CT at the University Club.
Friday’s first round will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. CT immediately following the conclusion of the practice round in the morning with the second and third rounds to follow Saturday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT. The University Club will play to a par 72 and 7,220 yards for the two-day, 54-hole championship.
The Tigers are six-time winners of David Toms Intercollegiate in the tournament’s eight-year history as they tee off on Friday as the two-time defending champions after scoring a 35-shot victory as the only team in the field to break par last fall with a winning 11-under par 853.
LSU is the top-ranked team in the field with a No. 19 ranking in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index following fourth-place finishes at the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic and Maui Jim Intercollegiate.
LSU looks to add another trophy to the case against a 13-team field that features such in-state programs as Louisiana Tech, McNeese State, New Orleans, Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana. The field also boasts the likes of Central Arkansas, Lynn University, Navy, North Texas, Oral Roberts, Pennsylvania and Southern Illinois.
The Tigers’ starting five is paired with Louisiana Tech and North Texas in Friday’s opening round as they are set to tee off from holes Nos. 1-3 beginning at 1 p.m. CT. Three individuals are ready to compete this week as they tee off from holes Nos. 16-17 in Friday’s opening round.
