Miner League Theatre Players to debut original play

The Miner League Theatre Players at Missouri University of Science and Technology will perform the world premiere of an original production “The S.T.E.M. Monologues” Nov. 9-15 on the Missouri S&T campus.
Performances will be held at 7 p.m. nightly Thursday, Nov. 9, through Wednesday, Nov. 15. All performances will take place in the Black Box Theatre, Room 143, of Castleman Hall, located at 10th and Main streets in Rolla.
Tickets are $5 for adults and for Missouri S&T students. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling 573-341-4185.
Before each night’s performance two monologues featuring the lives and accomplishments of Irene Curie and Gerty Cori will be performed by Caiti Townley, a high school senior from St. James, Missouri, and Alex Watson, a music teacher from St. James, Missouri, respectively. The monologues were written by Lauren Steele, a junior in history from Lee Summit, Missouri.
“The S.T.E.M. Monologues” was written and directed by Jeanne Stanley, associate professor of arts, languages and philosophy at Missouri S&T. The show tells the story of men and women who work, have worked, or are studying in the male dominated fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The monologues represent the true experiences of people in STEM from all over the nation. The show is staged in an intimate setting with minimal set design, costumes and lighting to put the main focus on the stories that each actor shares.
“This show is very near and dear to my heart,” says Stanley, “I have been working on it over the past two years and being able to finally share it with the world is exhilarating.”
The following Missouri S&T students and faculty members will participate in the performances:
