Music Department Announces Winter 2018 Events


The Cal Poly Pomona Department of Music kicks off its Winter 2018 series of events with two free concerts.
The Honors Invitational concert at 8 p.m. on Jan. 10 features students that have exhibited excellence in music performance, and the Music Hour Showcase at noon on Jan. 30 includes a variety of vocal and instrumental performances by music students. Both events will be in the Music Recital Hall.
Special guest artist appearances this quarter include violinist Martin Chalifour, principal concertmaster of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Nouveau Classical Project, an all-women contemporary classical music ensemble.
Chalifour will conduct a free chamber music master class at 4 p.m. and will perform Italian and French romantic music with Cal Poly Pomona professor and pianist Nadia Shpachenko at 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 5.  The Nouveau Classical Project will present a free workshop at 2 p.m. and an evening performance at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 6.
Tickets for both evening events are $15 general admission/$10 for students and can be purchased online at or at the Dr. Edward G. Chong Box Office in Building 24, room 188, weekdays from noon to 1 p.m. They can also be purchased at the door.
