Panthers Swimming and Diving Ranked 23rd in National Rankings

MIAMI (Oct. 9, 2018) – Coming off impressive performances at the TYR Fall Classic and in a dual meet against Florida Gulf Coast and North Florida, the FIU swimming and diving team find themselves ranked No. 23 in this week’s national poll, released by Collegeswimming.com. “The ladies work hard and it’s great to see them get some national recognition early in the season,” FIU Head Coach Randy Horner said. The Panthers hold the top times in 11 of the 13 events registered so far this season, according to USASwimming.org, and are ranked No. 1 in Conference USA. Naomi Ruele (Gaborone, Botswana) is first in three events; the 50 Freestyle (24.04), 100 Backstroke (56.93) and the 200 Backstroke (2:05.46). Stephanie Hussey (Beaconsfield, Quebec, Canada) holds the top time in both the 400 Individual Medley and 500 Freestyle with times of 4:28.61 and 1:04.55, respectively. Sara Gyertynaffy (Desenzano. Italy) owns a pair of top finishes in the in the 100 Butterfly (56.44) and 200 Individual medley (2:06.04), while Helga Fador (Budapest, Hungary) is tops in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 51.98. The 200 Freestyle is dominated by Megan Bowen (Tavistock, England) with a time of 1:52.99. On the platform, diver Maha Gouda (Alexandria, Egypt) has qualified for NCAA Zone Championships after her performance at the TYR Fall Classic. Gouda recorded two first-place finishes in the 1- and 3-meter events with scores of 272.50 and 276.65, respectively. Horner and the rest of the swimming and diving program will welcome FIU swim and dive alumni as a tribute to homecoming weekend. The Blue and Gold Alumni Intrasquad meet will take place at the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 11 a.m.UP NEXT
