COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Quinnipiac coach Rand Pecknold and former Rensselaer coach Seth Appert have been added to the Team USA coaching staff for the upcoming World Championship, May 5-21 in Germany and Paris.
The head coach for the team is Jeff Blashill, current head coach of the Detroit Red Wings and former head coach at Western Michigan.
The other assistant is Jack Capuano, a Maine alumnus and most recently head coach of the New York Islanders before being let go in January.
Pecknold has been involved in USA Hockey development camps, but this is his first assignment as a coach for any U.S. national team. He just completed his 23rd season as head coach at Quinnipiac, which includes two appearances in the NCAA tournament championship game.
Appert was not retained by RPI after just completing his 11th season, but has been active with USA Hockey, including four other stints on Team USA coaching staffs. He is currently an assistant coach at the Under-18 World Championship.
