Robert Jablonover, MD, assistant professor of medicine, was named assistant dean for pre-clinical education at the George Washington University (GW) School of Medicine and Health Sciences.In this role, Jablonover will have primary responsibility for the pre-clinical component of the revised, integrated MD program curriculum. He will also support the ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of the pre-clinical portion of the school’s undergraduate medical education curriculum. He will remain abreast of current trends in medical education and advise the senior associate dean for MD programs and faculty on recommended curricular changes and improvements.
“We are confident in Dr. Jablonover’s ability to lead the delivery of quality pre-clinical medical education,” said Richard Simons, MD, senior associate dean for MD programs and professor of medicine at the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He will make a wonderful addition to the leadership team and we look forward to his insights and perspectives as we continue to enhance our MD curriculum.”
Jablonover will work closely with the Committee on Undergraduate Medical Education Curriculum to make sure the curriculum prepares students for clinical practice, meets accreditation criteria, is appropriately integrated, and is evaluated and improved on an ongoing basis.
Jablonover received his undergraduate degree from Duke University before entering medical school at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. He trained as a resident at the University of Maryland and as a fellow in general internal medicine (medical education track) at Johns Hopkins and Bayview Hospitals.
David Leitenberg, MD, PhD, associate professor of microbiology, immunology, and tropical medicine, served as the interim assistant dean for pre-clinical education while a search was underway.
