LAS VEGAS, Nev.- The UC Riverside Softball Team (35-22) earned its second postseason shutout Thursday night as the Highlanders defeated regional host UNLV 2-0 in the NISC semi-final round. UCR will now move on to the championship round of the tournament tomorrow at 3:00 PM where the team will face the winner of the consolation bracket.The Highlanders remain undefeated in their first postseason appearance and have not allowed a single run.Pitcher Tayler Misfeldt (18-11) started in the circle for the Highlanders tossing a complete game shutout and only allowed four hits and two walks, while striking out seven. The senior was truly dominant making several Rebels miss and working with her defense to get out of tough situations stranding six runners on base. Misfeldt collected her 18th win of the season and grabbed her first of the postseason.UCR took a 1-0 in the 4th inning as senior Jenae Lockwood crushed a solo-shot over the wall in left-center. The Highlanders would add one more in the 6th as junior Brittney Garcia kept her hot streak going with an RBI single down the right field line to score sophomore Emma Ramelot.The team spread out six hits among five players including a 2-for-3 performance by sophomore Danielle Ortega.UC Riverside would hold on to its 2-0 lead to win the game and move on to the final round tomorrow at 3:00 PM where the Highlanders will face the winner of the early game: UNLV vs. Nevada. UCR has already topped both teams in this regional.
