The Highlanders started the last day of competition with a tough 2-1 loss to Middle Tennessee that came down to to the last inning of play.The Blue Raiders struck first with a run in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. UCR would ice the game at 1-1 in the fifth inning as junior infielder Brittney Garcia singled through the left side with two outs to bring in senior outfielder Jenna Curtan.The Highlanders would go into the final inning of play down 2-1 after the Blue Raiders added another run in the top of the 7th. With 2 out and 2 on in the bottom of the seventh, Middle Tennessee would capitalize on ground ball back to the circle that ended the game.UCLA
UC Riverside struggled in its last game against tournament host No. 4 UCLA, as the Highlanders fell 13-2.The Highlanders gave up 3 runs in each of the first two innings, but answered with 2 runs of their own in the 3rd and 4th.Curtan and Garcia were on the offensive scene again as they each represented the 2 RBIs scored for UCR on Sunday afternoon.The Bruins would tack on another 7 runs to finish the night and the Highlanders would fall 13-2 to conclude the weekend’s events.The Highlanders will have their home opener this Wednesday at 1:00PM as they host San Diego St at Amy S. Harrison Softball Field.
