Softball Hosts San Diego State in Home Opener Wednesday

Riverside, CA- After kicking off the season this past weekend, the UC Riverside Softball Team (2-3) will open up its home schedule this Wednesday at 1:00 PM against the visiting San Diego State Aztecs (1-5).The Highlanders are looking to end a two-game skid after losing a close matchup with Middle Tennessee 2-1 and falling to No. 4 UCLA 13-2 in a double-header this past Sunday.UCR’s two wins this season have come in shut-out fashion with senior pitcher Tayler Misfeldt in the circle. In 3 appearances this season, Misfeldt carries a 2-1 record with a 2.63 ERA and 19 strikeouts, which currently ranks 3rd in the Big West Conference.Junior infielder Brittney Garcia is one of the leading contributors offensively as she has a team high 4 RBIs on the season and a .400 batting average that ranks 2nd on the team.The Highlanders as a team are out to a hot start offensively as they rank 4th in the conference in hits (37), 4th in slugging (.413), 4th in batting average (.294), and 3rd in on-base percentage (.379).The Aztecs come into Wednesday’s matchup with a 1-5 record after dropping three straight, including a 3-2 loss to Big West opponent UC Davis that went 9 innings. San Diego State owns a 5-2 all-time record against UCR with the last meeting being a 3-0 win for the Aztecs nearly one year ago in San Diego, CA.The home opener with SDSU is set to start at 1:00PM at Amy S. Harrison Field in Riverside, CA.
