Spartans Take Series At Fresno State With 9-3 VictorySan José State softball banged out 12 hits, scored nine times and Fresno State’s defense committed six errors in SJSU’s 9-3 victory on Sunday. With the win the Spartans took the Mountain West series two-games to one.

The Bulldogs’ .308 team batting average is the fourth highest in the Mountain West and ranks 47th in the nation. Hayleigh Galvan leads the offense with a .404 average (38-for-94), has eight doubles and has driven in 29. Savannah McHellon, batting .315 (35-for-111), leads Fresno State with 12 homers and 33 RBIs. In the circle, the Bulldogs have used six pitchers with Danielle East starting 20 of the team’s 39 games. East (12-7) has eight complete games, three shutouts, a save and a 3.37 ERA. In 101.2 innings she has 114 strikeouts, 36 walks and opposing batters are hitting .270 off her this season. Samantha Mejia has three starts, a 5-4 record, and a 4.85 ERA. In 56.1 innings she has struck out 47, walked 37 and opponents are hitting .283 off her.Head coach Linda Garza, in her second season leading the Fresno State program, brought a 180-158-2 six-year career record into the 2018 season.
