Case Western Reserve University sophomore Dominic Oddo, a multi event competitor on the men’s track and field team, and senior Brooke Hortness, a diver on the women’s swimming and diving team, have been named the Spartan Club Athletes of the Week for their performances this past weekend.Oddo broke the school record in the heptathlon at the All-Ohio Multi-Events Championship on Sunday. Oddo scored 4,615 points to break the previous school record of 4,523 points set by Michael Cohara in 2012. Oddo placed within the top four of each event throughout the two-day championship. He won the jump with a leap of 6.78 meters (762 points), which set a new meet record in the event. Oddo also finished tied for first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.56 (846 points). He had three third-place finishes in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.32 (772 points), the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:54.97 (714 points) and the high jump with mark of 1.82 meters (644 points). He also added two fourth-place finishes in the pole vault (3.09m, 379 points) and the shot put (10.20m, 498 points). His score of 4,615 points in the heptathlon currently ranks first in the University Athletic Association.Hortness swept both diving events on Saturday to help the Spartan women pick up wins against Baldwin Wallace University and Ursuline College.
