Stony Brook Physician Educator to Receive ACGME Award for Residency Training Leadership

Stony Brook University’s Dr. Frederick Schiavone, has been selected to receive the 2013 Parker J. Palmer Courage to Lead Award, a national honor given by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) to outstanding Designated Institutional Officials (DIO) who have demonstrated leadership and excellence in overseeing their institution’s residency programs. Dr. Schiavone, a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine and Vice Dean for Graduate Medical Education at Stony Brook University School of Medicine, will receive the award at the ACGME’s Annual Education Conference in Orlando, Fla., on March 1.
