Track and Field Adds Assistant Coach Eric Fremd

RIVERSIDE, Calif.– The UC Riverside Track and Field team has added accomplished assistant coach Eric Fremd ahead of the 2019 season, replacing hurdles, jumps and multi events coach Daniel Newell.Fremd, a former assistant with Sacramento State the last three years, oversaw the school’s multis and horizontal jumpers. During that time, he coached two NCAA All-Americans, along with 12 NCAA preliminary qualifiers. He also had 10 Big Sky Conference Champions and 41 all-conference performers.”On behalf of the search committee, I feel very fortunate to hire a coach of Eric’s caliber to our program,” head coach Nate Browne said. “It is clear that he is a rising star in the coaching profession and his results over the last three years speak for themselves.””We look forward to Coach Fremd building on the success that Coach Daniel Newell set in motion and continuing to grow it with our talented athletes in his event area. We welcome him, his wife Crystal and his son TJ to the UC Riverside track and athletics family.”Fremd spent two seasons as the track and field head coach at Yuba College, helping the team to its best seasons in over a decade. During the 2015 season, the women’s team won the Golden Valley Conference Championship, while the men’s team had its highest placing in just as long by placing second.Prior to his time at Yuba, Fremd served as the horizontal jumps and assistant sprints/relays coach at Sacramento City College for 2 seasons.”I am honored for the opportunity to coach at UC Riverside,” Fremd said. “To be a part of a university with such a rich history and tradition is truly an honor.
