Flagstaff, AZ – The UC Riverside Track and Field multi-eventers will be competing in their first heptathlon and pentathlon of the 2018 indoor season this Friday at the NAU Mountain T’s Invitational.UCR will have one men’s heptathlete, Aidan Olvera, completing the two-day event. Olvera – a competitor in pole vault and javelin at the 2017 Big West Outdoor Championship – will be competing in the first multi-event of his career. Nine competitors will toe the line in the heptathlon competition, up from only two competitors at this meet last year.The women’s pentathlon field will include a trio of Highlanders with Seline Schinke, Didi Amarasekara, and Tayler Fleming set to face the one-day, five event challenge.Friday will mark the first multi-event for the freshman Schinke, who made her UCR debut at the NAU Lumberjack Team Challenge two weeks ago. Amarasekara is currently ranked #2 on UCR’s all-time list for the pentathlon, and she looks to improve on that mark of 3,414 that she set at the 2017 Mountain T’s Invitational.For Fleming, this will be her first meet since long jumping at the 2017 NCAA National Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon last June. There will be 12 women competing in the pentathlon, including top seed Serena Canegan, a Div II All-American and recent Adams State graduate.The action kicks off in the Walkup Skydome Friday at 9:00 a.m. with the men’s heptathlon 60 meter dash, and at 9:30 a.m. with the women’s pentathlon 60 meter hurdles. Day two will start at 8:00 a.m. with the men’s heptathlon 60 meter hurdles.
