TRACK & FIELD COMPETES FOUR IN OPENING DAY OF NCAA WEST PRELIMINARY

SACRAMENTO, Calif.  — The first four of nine Sacramento State student-athletes competed at the NCAA West Preliminary on Thursday at Hornet Stadium.

Carly Schulz finished 30th in the 400-hurdles after running 59.69. The senior placed fifth in the sixth heat and missed the final qualifying spot by six-tenths of a second.

In the men’s long jump, Cory Barger finished 25th and Jah Strange was 30th. Barger produced his best jump on his first attempt with a wind-aided long of 24-01.00. He followed with a distance of 23-02.75 and travelled 22-11.75 on his third attempt. Strange opened with a long jump of 22-06.25 before a mark of 23-05.25 for his best. He closed the competition at 23-00.75

Freshman Shilah Bedingfield completed the evening by placing 43rd in the 400. Bedingfield crossed the line in 55.65 and placed eighth in the first heat.

Sacramento State will have three additional competitors on Friday. Kyle Peterson starts the day in the men’s discus at noon. Andre Lindsey will run the men’s 110-hurdles at 4:30 and Bedingfield returns for the women’s 200 at 7:55 p.m.
