WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary head men’s tennis coach Jeff Kader announced the Tribe’s five-event fall schedule on Tuesday. Highlighting the slate, the Green and Gold will host the Tribe Invitational, Nov. 2-4, for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
W&M opens its five-tournament fall campaign at the Penn Invitational for the fourth-straight year. The seventh-annual event will be held Sept. 14-16 at the Hamlin and Hecht Tennis Centers in Philadelphia.
The Tribe will travel to two events during the first weekend in October. W&M will send competitors to both the Richmond Invitational and the Farnsworth Invitational in Princeton, N.J., Oct. 5-7. The Farnsworth event is named in honor of the late Princeton tennis alumnus, All-America honoree and Navy lieutenant Ted Farnsworth, and will be played at the Lenz Tennis Center.
W&M takes part in the ITA Atlantic Region Championships, Oct. 19-22, which will be hosted by Virginia Tech at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. The regional singles finalists and the doubles champion earn automatic entry into the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, Nov. 7-11, in Surprise, Ariz. Jamie Whiteford won the Tribe’s most recent regional title with the singles crown in 2011, while the duo of Alex Cojanu and Colin O’Brien won the latest double crown at the 2007 Mideast Regional. The Green and Gold closes out the fall hosting the Tribe Invitational, Nov. 2-4. The Tribe welcomes a group of teams including VCU, Old Dominion, Penn and Harvard to Williamsburg.
The Tribe returns seven letterwinners, including six that saw extensive action in the lineup during a strong 2018 campaign. W&M compiled a 13-11 record and finished the year ranked No. 73 nationally. It was the Tribe’s highest end of the year ranking since 2008. The Green and Gold was the top seed in the CAA Tournament for just the second time since 1998. The Tribe advanced to the league …
