Tax season can make the most confident taxpayer worry about various issues such as deductions, dependents and new tax laws. This year, all taxpayers can seek free and professional help with their taxes through the AARP Tax-Aide Service.
Housed at Lone Star College-Kingwoods offsite location at the East Montgomery County Improvement District in New Caney, the nations largest, free, volunteer-run tax counseling and preparation service will help people prepare and electronically file their federal income tax returns.
LSC-Kingwood has offered this free service for the past five years as a way to provide community outreach, said Pat Chandler, program manager of the Academy for Lifelong Learning (ALL) program. This is a really good service for anyone who needs help with their taxes. In the past, we had college students to people with six-figure salaries who utilized this service.
This free service is open to everyone regardless of their age or income. AARP Tax-Aide Service is available for walk-ins only on a first-come, first-serve basis from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays Feb. 2-April 17. The service is not available on March 13 and 15.
AARP Tax-Aide Service is part of the IRSs Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program. As part of TCE, AARP Tax-Aide Services trained and certified volunteers help people of low-to-middle income with special attention to senior citizens age 60 and older.
