Women’s Basketball Hosts Otters, Warriors this Week

ARCATA, Calif. – The Humboldt State women’s basketball team hosts a pair of conference rivals in Lumberjack Arena this weekend. The Lumberjacks welcome Cal State Monterey Bay Thursday night before facing Stanislaus State on Saturday. Both games are scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m.Following a two-point loss on the road at Cal State San Marcos last Thursday, the Green and Gold responded with a dominant 69-49 victory against Cal State San Bernardino to round out the weekend. Junior forward Alexia Thrower continues to collect double-doubles as she averages 18.5 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. She currently ranks second in the California Collegiate Athletic Association in scoring and fourth in rebounding. The North Coast squad has also shown the ability to wreak havoc from deep as they boast two of the top three 3-point shooters in the CCAA. Junior guard Madeline Hatch is connecting on a red-hot 53.1 percent of her long-range attempts and averages 2.8 per game. Senior forward Isa Conde is also a reliable sharpshooter as she converts on 42.9 percent of shots from outside the arc, and she is second on the team with 15 points per game.Monterey Bay has struggled in the early going and is in the midst of a seven-game losing streak to begin the season. The Otters were victims of a 22-point loss against Cal State Dominguez Hills its last time out. Senior guard Jordana Price leads Monterey Bay with 12 points per game.”They are a very different team from the past,” said HSU Head Coach Michelle Bento-Jackson. “No. 1 they have a new head coach, and No. 2 the personnel is completely different. From a personnel standpoint, they are different and their style of play is different.”Stanislaus State enters the weekend with a 1-4 record with their lone win coming against Sonoma State last Thursday.
