RIVERSIDE, Calif.—A new level of excitement will surround the Crosstown Showdown when the UC Riverside Women’s Basketball team faces California Baptist University at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the CBU Events Center.A big reason for that is because Cal Baptist is in its inaugural season at the NCAA Division I level. While the two teams have played each other the last five years in exhibition games, all won by UCR, this will mark the first time since 2001 that they will face each other in the regular season.”We are looking forward to playing CBU in the first Crosstown Showdown between our women’s basketball programs,” head coach John Margaritis said. “CBU is very much improved and this game will be an important test for our team as we go deeper into our season.”So far this season, UCR (2-5) has been led on the offensive end by Jannon Otto and Malou De Kergret. Otto is averaging 10.9 points per game, while De Kergret is averaging 10.4 ppg.”This will be a challenging game for our team,” Margaritis said. “They have done a good job recruiting.
