Women’s Basketball Opens UAA Play at Home against Carnegie Mellon

The Case Western Reserve University women’s basketball team will open its 2018 University Athletic Association schedule on Saturday, January 6th, when the Spartans play host to the Carnegie Mellon University Tartans at Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland, Ohio.  Tip-off on Saturday is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.Live Coverage Live Stats: http://athletics.case.edu/sports/wbkb/2017-18/boxscores/20180106_39d5.xmlWebcast: https://case.edu/livestream/athletics/CWRU Spartans Case Western Reserve will be aiming to put an end to a stretch of four-straight losses entering Saturday’s game that has seen the team’s record drop to 3-7 overall, including a 1-2 mark in games at Horsburgh Gymnasium.  CWRU was at the Smokey Ballenger Classic last weekend, where the team suffered an 84-62 setback to host Otterbein, and a 78-40 loss against 21st-ranked Marietta.  The Spartans are averaging 61.4 points per game on 36.2% shooting overall, including 30.0% from long range, while allowing 71.6 points per contest.  Junior forward Hillary Hellmann leads the team with 17.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game this season, while sophomore guard Kendall McConico has added 11.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per contest. The Spartans are under the leadership of Head Coach Jennifer Reimer, who became the program’s all-time leader with her 121st career victory with CWRU earlier in the season.  She has a career record of 279-237 during her 21-year career as a collegiate head coach, including a 123-137 mark during her 11 seasons with the Spartans.  Reimer is assisted by CWRU alumnae Brooke Orcutt and Erin Gdaniec.Carnegie Mellon TartansThe Tartans are 8-3 overall this season with a 3-0 road record (6-1 including neutral games).  Carnegie Mellon split a pair of games at the Hoops for Hope Tournament in Delaware, Ohio last weekend, falling to Albion 53-38 on Friday, before defeating host Ohio Wesleyan 97-93 in double overtime on Saturday for their third win in their last four contests.  The team is averaging 69.7 points per game …
