Riverside, CA—Looking to build on its first conference win this past weekend, the UC Riverside Women’s Basketball Team (4-12, 1-1) travels to Big West leader UC Davis (12-3, 2-0) for a Thursday night tip-off at 7:00 p.m. before returning home to face Cal State Fullerton this Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
GAME NOTESTAKING DOWN THE BEACHUC Riverside bounced back from a close loss to Cal Poly in its Big West opener by dominating Long Beach State to the tune of a 77-53 win on Saturday. The Highlanders finished with season-highs in both forced turnovers (22) and rebounding margin (+23). Senior guard Michelle Curry led the way with a brilliant all-around performance, putting up 23 points (10-17 FG), a career-high 12 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 steals. Through two Big West games, Curry ranks 1st in the conference in steals (4.0 spg), 3rd in assists (5.0 apg), and 4th in scoring (21.0 ppg), rebounds (8.0 rpg) and field goal percentage (.640). With 19 points at South Dakota on Dec. 19, Michelle Curry became the 18th 1,000-point scorer in program history. UCR’s offense has continued to improve with each month, reaching its highs in scoring (79.5 ppg), free throws (18.5 per game), three-point percentage (.323) and free throw percentage (.740) through two games in January.BIG WEST LEADERS
