Boston, MA — The nationally-ranked WPI women’s cross country team raced to a handful of records as they placed second at the NEWMAC Championships Sunday at Franklin Park.
The Engineers, ranked No. 31 by the USTFCCCA, set the program record for team finish, lowest point total (62) and number of All-Conference honorees (four). WPI was second to No. 2 MIT, who claimed second through sixth places for a total of 20 points. Coast Guard was third with 110 points, followed by Wellesley (118) and Smith (145).
Sophomore Sydney Packard (Georgetown, MA) was behind the five Engineers from Cambridge, and the individual champion from Coast Guard, in seventh place with a time of 18:43 while classmate Ariana Rozen (Carver, MA) came home 11th (19:10). Senior Emily Newman (Easton, MA) claimed 12th-place points (13th overall) with a time of 19:11 and classmate Lea Strangio (Watertown, MA) picked up 14 points (16th overall) with a 19:15. The top 17 overall in the women’s race earn All-Conference accolades.
Freshman Keely Nistler (Vadnais Heights, MN) collected 18 points with a 22nd-place time of 19:33. Sophomore Callie Schadt (Brewster, MA) was 27th overall and 22nd for scoring purposes with a time of 19:54. Junior Carly Neeld (Williston, VT) accounted for 43 points (49th place) with a 20:30.
The team turns their attention to the NCAA Division III New England Regional on November 11 at Southern Maine.
