ROSEVILLE, Calif. — Astha Madan drained a 30-foot putt on the 18th hole to secure the team title for the Sacramento State women’s golf team at the Sacramento State Invitational on Tuesday at Sierra View Country Club. Madan birdied her final four holes and helped the team overcome a 12-stroke deficit at the start of the round to win by two strokes.Sacramento State totaled 284-295-285-864 to record its second consecutive tournament victory. The Hornets’ team total is the second best in school history while its final round score is tied for the third lowest. Along with Madan, Sofie Babic and Julia Becker also shot 70 to lead the charge. Madan finished the tournament in second place at 71-71-70-212 to set her career best and tie for the second lowest 54-hole score in the program’s history. Babic placed third at 68-75-70-213 which matches her career best and Becker was fourth at 71-74-70-215.Madan was 3-over through her first nine holes before playing the final nine at 5-under par. She birdied the par-5 10th and followed that with four consecutive pars. She stormed through the final four holes with birdies on the par-4 15th and 16th, the par-3 17th and the par-5 18th.Babic sparked the team in the early morning, playing the front nine at 3-under. She opened with a birdie on the par-5 first and added birdies on the par-4 seventh and ninth without a bogey on her first nine holes. The sophomore dropped to 1-under with bogeys on Nos. 11 and 15 but earned a shot back with a birdie on the par-4 16th.Becker spread her five birdies and three bogeys throughout her round, shooting 36 on the front and 34 on the back.
