CHENEY, Wash. – Just one day after facing the Big Sky-leading Idaho Vandals, Sacramento State took on the conference’s number two team, the Eastern Washington Eagles. Despite a pair of wins from Jenna Dorian and Sofi Wicker, the Hornets fell on the road, 5-2.

Playing at the number three position, Dorian won her team-leading 12th singles match of the season. The sophomore defeated her opponent in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, giving the Hornets their first point of the afternoon.

All 12 of Dorian’s wins this season have been in straight sets. She is 12-4 overall, including 8-1 in conference singles competition.

Wicker won Sunday as well, also in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, at the number five position. The win came after Eastern had already clinched the match, but gave the Hornets their second point of the afteroon.

The match started with back-to-back doubles wins by Eastern Washington, giving the Eagles an early 1-0 edge. After Carolina Chernyetsky fell at the No. 4 position, Dorian won her match to make it a 2-1 contest.

From there, however, the Eagles won the next three singles matchups at the Nos. 1, 2, and 6 positions, in order. Wicker closed the afternoon with her victory at No. 5

The loss drops the Hornets into sixth in the Big Sky at 5-4. They are a half a match behind Southern Utah and one match ahead of Idaho State.

Sunday’s match against Eastern Washington was Sacramento State’s second to last Big Sky contest of the season. The Hornets will be back in Sacramento for a non-conference matchup against San Jose State on Wednesday, April 17 before traveling to Seattle U on Friday, April 19. They close the season with a road conference match at Portland State on the 20th.

First up, however, is San Jose State on Wednesday at the Sacramento State Tennis Courts. The match is scheduled to being at 1:00 pm PT.
